Rookie wins Tarmac West

Rookie Bryce Moore and co-driver Adrian Burney snared the Lance East Exotics Tarmac West after a dramatic final day.
Heading into the fourth and final day of the successful event, Troy Wilson appeared to be in a dominant position.
However, he had to sacrifice the lead after being unable to fix oil cooler damage sustained during Saturday’s finale in Bullsbrook.
This pushed Moore to the top of the leaderboard by two minutes ahead of Jurgen and Helen Lunsmann in the EV, 2019 Tesla Model 3P+.
Moore was able retain the advantage as he ended up completing the victory by the 2m01s margin in his 2022 Toyota Supra.
“I’m feeling a little bit emotional, this is the most mentally challenging motorsport event I’ve ever done, it’s been such a roller coaster,” said Moore.
“We’ve had good luck, bad luck, and been struggling since yesterday, we’ve had no boost. I didn’t think we were going to finish the final run. I don’t think the car could do another stage in the condition it’s in, but we brought it home.
“There’s so many aspects to Tarmac West compared to other forms of motorsport, it’s such a challenge for the team, the co-driver, I had no idea how much goes into it, I was pretty green when I entered this and I would’ve been in a lot of trouble without Adrian, I was just driving as fast as I can when he told me to.”
In the Competition T165 which is limited to 165km/h was dramatic as only half of the field made it through Saturday’s competition alone.
In the end husband-wife combination of Kane and Vivian Poutney drove their 2013 Mercedes-Benz A45 to victory, 1m38s ahead of Keith Hamilton.
The father-son team of Alex and Lachlan White were dominant in the Competition T130 class with a commanding win in their Nissan Silvia.
All up the event has been hailed as a success, attracting 25,000 fans to Langley Park with 600 cars taking part in the Celebration of Motorsport display.
After four days, 33 stages and 902km 28 of the 45 cars made the finish.
“Our priority is always safety, and the event has been successful in that respect,” said Event Director Ross Tapper.
“We had the biggest crowd we’ve ever seen in Ellenbrook on Thursday night and today, Malaga and Langley Park have been packed, it’s so good to see.
“The Celebration of Motorsport has grown, now the biggest motoring display in Perth with 600 cars, and we’ve intentionally kept everything free so it can be enjoyed by everyone.
“This event would not be possible without our officials, sponsors, competitors and spectators, I’d like to thank all of them for their support.”
