Toyota offers Supra sneak peek

Toyota Supra

By Thomas Miles

Toyota has given fans the biggest glimpse of the incoming Toyota GR Supra Supercar yet as it announces a new documentary.

Toyota will take fans on the journey to the brand’s long-awaited return to Supercars in 2026.

Led by the homologation team, Walkinshaw Andretti United, plus customer Brad Jones Racing, six Supras will be on the grid next year.

Fans will get an inside view as to how the Japanese manufacturer has returned to the grid after more than 30 years through a new behind-the-scenes series called Creating the GR Supra Supercar.

It has been created in conjunction with Toyota and Walkinshaw Andretti United.

Broadcast details are yet to be revealed, but the show was announced in a social media video.

Since the reveal of the GR Supra on the eve of the 2024 Bathurst 1000, WAU and Toyota have been hurriedly working behind the scenes.

The formal reveal of the car is just four days away on September 1 in Sydney.

Aside from a full-scale model seen at Mount Panorama last year, little has been seen of the car itself with the body showcased in the video.

“This is a very special time for Toyota in Australia. It’s been decades in the making,” Toyota’s Sean Hanley said.

“We are going to be on that grid in February 2026 and Toyota means business.”
“We are doing this for Toyota, this for the fans and this for everyone in the motorsport world,” WAU CEO Bruce Stewart said.

Toyota head of design Nicolas Hogios added some insight into the look of the Supra.

“The lines of the Supra are already very aggressive and very beautiful and distinctively Toyota, but to see it as a race car is just gonna be on another level,” he said.

“The way it looks like it’s moving, even when it’s standing still is just awesome.”
