Norwell Factory Racing’s Charlie Parker has bounced back into Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup title contention with an overall win in Round 2 at Queensland Raceway.

The 20-year-old Launceston racer put together a weekend of consistent podium finishes – third, second, and third – in the Budget Pet Products/Bicheno Brewing GR86 to secure the round honours in a field that saw mixed conditions and close racing across all three races.

“It was a bloody good weekend and a big improvement over Townsville,” Parker said. “The big thing was adapting to the rain on Saturday and keeping my nose clean. Of course, I wanted to win the last race, but I’m happy with what we’ve achieved.”

Fifteen-year-old Hobart schoolboy and series leader Oliver Wickham maintained his grip on the championship lead with another strong showing, finishing third overall for the round in the ACL Race Series GR86. After qualifying sixth, Wickham took ninth in Race 1, excelled in torrential rain to finish fifth in Race 2, and capped the weekend with second in the final.

“There was some great racing and it’s good for the championship,” Wickham said. “Now it’s back to school before Bathurst – I’ve never driven Mt Panorama before, so I can’t wait.”

Seventeen-year-old Perth driver Kade Davey endured a rollercoaster weekend in the Racing Together Supercheap Auto/Weet-Bix GR86. After qualifying fourth, he dropped to 12th in Race 1 following a mistake, but stormed back to claim third in the rain-affected Race 2 and finished fifth in Race 3 to take seventh overall.

“We’ve made gains over our first round in Townsville,” Davey said. “Bathurst has always been a dream, so I’ll take the mountain as it comes and learn with each lap.”

All three Norwell Factory Racing drivers run under the guidance of Bathurst winner Paul Morris at his Norwell Motorplex training base on the Gold Coast.

The next stop for the 2025 GR Cup is the biggest stage of the year – the Repco Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama from October 9–12 – where Parker will look to close the gap further in the title fight and Wickham aims to defend his championship lead.
