Operation catch Feeney in QR comeback

Broc Feeney on Townsville podium

By Thomas Miles

For the first time in six years, Supercars will be racing around the “Paperclip” at Queensland Raceway where Broc Feeney is the man to beat.

Despite never having started a Supercars race at the returning circuit, Feeney is well accustomed to the bumps and braking zones given it is Triple Eight’s test track.

The Ipswich Super440 is the final round of the Sprint Cup where Feeney is effectively unbeatable.

The #88 sits a huge 220 points clear of teammate Will Brown and, barring disaster, should wrap it up on Saturday and the first ticket to Finals along the way.

Feeney has won seven of the last eight races and roars into QR in career-best form.

“I am pumped to be back at QR for the first time in six years,” Feeney said.

“It will be huge to try and finish the Sprint Cup on a high and try to get the extra bonus points for the Playoffs.

“We will try to lock ourselves in but we just want to keep winning races.

“We have been going really well lately, but that does not mean the next round will be strong.

“We have obviously tested here over the years and that gives us a bit of a read before the weekend.

“Hopefully, the car suits the track and we can get more wins.

“The racing will be action-packed like the rest of 2025, so we will need to qualify up the front to stay out of the chaos.

“There are huge braking zones here, so expecting a lot of big divebombs.”

One driver who is forever related to Ipswich is Chaz Mostert, given he took his maiden win there in 2013 in just his 14th race at DJR.

Queensland Raceway is such a happy hunting ground for Mostert that he has never failed to score at least one podium in each visit, with further wins in 2015 and 2017.

“QR is a fantastic place,” the WAU driver said.

“I got my first win here with DJR in 2013, which is obviously a fantastic memory.

“There is a family vibe here, and always feel that hometown advantage.

“It is a simple track with six corners, but so many unique bumps in places.

“I love the pressure this place creates.”

Since the last round in 2019 when Scott McLaughlin and Jamie Whincup shared the wins, the venue has changed significantly from a resurfaced circuit to a new pit lane, grandstands and more.

Team 18’s David Reynolds has overcome the sickness holding him back and is looking forward to returning.

“It’s been six years since we last raced there, so it’s been a very long time. The circuit is the same, but the surfaces will have changed a lot.

“It’s a pretty simple looking track, but everyone loves it because you can always see the cars at every corner, you can’t miss them.

“The track makes for really good racing, the layout of the circuit’s really hard fought so there’s always good battles going on.

“So hopefully we can qualify well and race up there. It’s a low degradation track, so if we qualify well I think we can end up with a good result.”
