MPC battles emotions to race for Tim

Emotions were high at Sandown this weekend as the SpeedSeries community farewelled popular driver Tim Miles, and those within the Melbourne Performance Centre garage were hit the hardest.
Miles raced alongside Brendon Leitch in a Team Melbourne Performance Centre Kiwi Audi in the GT World Challenge Australia series.
But tragically, the beloved figure suddenly passed away on July 5 at just 58 following a cycling accident.
This weekend’s SpeedSeries round at Sandown was the first held without him and the loss was felt far and wide.
A special “Minute of Noise” took place to salute Miles, which included Leitch driving his Audi, while a rainbow even appeared above the grid.
Following some burnouts the entire field formed a guard of honour, while his helmet was on display.
The R8 itself was on display throughout the weekend in the Melbourne Performance Centre garage.
Leading the team’s charge on the track was Brad Schumacher, who, along with Broc Feeney finished third and second.
With Miles being a key part of the Melbourne Performance Centre garage and standing on the podium in his last start, it was an emotional weekend to say the least within his team’s garage.
“It has been difficult for us this weekend to be completely honest,” Schumacher told Auto Action.
“Tim is the type of guy that is just irreplaceable and it will take a lot for us to get over him not being around with us anymore.
“He was such a pivotal part of our team. He has been on my mind all weekend and it is just so sad what happened.
“At the end of the day I know he is up there looking down and will be proud we are doing what we love.
“It would have been nice to get the win for our late mate.
“I gave it a crack and Tim would have wanted me to do that, but we are still happy to take home second place.”
