Mostert

By Thomas Miles

The countdown is on for the Toyota Supra Supercar on-track debut, and it could arrive as early as next month.

With Walkinshaw Andretti United, the homologation team, Toyota will make an anticipated return to Supercars.

The Toyota Supra will be the first new addition to the Gen3 era alongside the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro incumbents.

With BJR also part of the Toyota umbrella, there will be six Supras on the grid next year.

The first Supra Supercar to be seen is currently being constructed by WAU and fans will not have to wait long to see it.

Speaking on the Fox Sports broadcast in Townsville, WAU co-owner Ryan Walkinshaw locked in an on-track debut of the end of August.

“We’re hoping got get the Toyota on track for close to the end of August,” Walkinshaw said.

“Then we’ll start going through our testing procedures and have it ready for the beginning of the season next year.”

Before the Townsville 500 weekend, WAU performed a chassis switch on the Chaz Mostert side of the garage.

Mostert switched from chassis WR29 back to WR28 for not just this weekend’s Townsville 500, but also the foreseeable future.

The chassis he is currently racing is the car he used in 2023 and 2024.

The WR29 debuted in the Sydney 500 season opener, but has been rotated to ensure it is fresh for the 2026 season when WAU races with Toyota.

WAU intends to build two new chassis ahead of Toyota’s debut in 2026.
