Randle sends pre-qualifying statement

The stage is set for qualifying in Townsville after Thomas Randle topped the second and final Supercars practice by an entire tenth.
The session was clean as teams were tyre limited, which meant the fight for fastest did not erupt until the final two minutes.
After a host of cars laid down times, Randle emerged on top with a 1:13.0460.
He enjoyed a tenth over Broc Feeney and Tickford teammate Cam Waters, while Brodie Kostecki and Matt Payne as the Mustangs controlled the session.
“Awesome to top the session but only practice,” Randle said.
“We will see what everyone does now, and only have an hour and a half before qualifying.
“It was a tricky Darwin for us, but the car feels really good, and hopefully we can keep it there for qualifying.
“Confidence is everything in these cars, and Cam is up there as well so we will keep calm and see what we can do.”

After “torching the left front” in opening practice, Brown watched the first half of the session from the garage to maintain his tyre allocation.
Despite the limited running, he ended up ninth.
It was an important session, being the second and final practice before Race 20 Qualifying.
The Mustangs bolted out of the gates top six, with Mostert leading the charge as the only driver in the 1m13s window over the first five minutes.
Mostert led the way by a slender 0.0434s over Waters, with Randle and Allen also on the pace.
That advantage shrank to 0.0525s when Reynolds put a Camaro up to second and joined Mostert in the 1m13s club.
However, Le Brocq had more speed and hit the top of the timesheets with a 1:13.9210.
The likes of Reynolds and Heimgartner also posted purple sectors, but could not quite string those laps together and settled into third and fourth, respectively.
Although Waters made an immediate leap forward from a tough opening practice, there were still plenty of changes being made to the Monster Mustang.
The second half of the session was brought to life by rookie Cameron, who shot the CoolDrive Mustang to the top.

His impressive 1:13.6204 shot him from 17th to first and three tenths clear of the rest on fresh tyres.
Another rookie on the pace was Murray as he shot to second to displace De Pasquale and come within 0.0186s of first.
Both Heimgartner and Murray got caught out at Turn 7 and toured the grass run-off.
It was not until the final three minutes that drivers started to make moves on fresh tyres.
Davison was the first, rising up 17 spots to fourth before going even faster on his next push lap to hit the lead with a 1:13.5833.
This benchmark did not last for long with Randle, Feeney, Waters, Kostecki, Payne and Allen all clearing it as the #18 tumbled outside the top 10 in an instant.
Things step up when Race 20 Qualifying takes place at 13.20 AEST.

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
The Supercars Championship has grown to become a globally recognized series, known for its competitive racing and passionate fan base. It continues to be a major part of Australia\'s motorsport culture, attracting top drivers and teams from around the world.',
