Supercars pleased with improved Townsville crowd

Townsville crowd

By Thomas Miles

Departing Supercars CEO Shane Howard has hailed the best Townsville 500 crowd in seven years.

The 2025 Townsville 500 attracted a crowd of 128,337, the event’s best attendance since 2018.

Whilst it is not near the inaugural event’s 168,000 or even the 150,000 mark that it consistently met before 2018, it is a solid step forward in the right direction.

For the first time, the Townsville street circuit hosted a Friday race, creating three meaningful days, while concerts, bull riding and Summernats also offered things outside of Supercars.

“This year’s NTI Townsville 500 has been our biggest event yet in North Queensland, and we are delighted to see that reflected in our largest attendance at the event since 2018,” said Supercars CEO Shane Howard.

“The racing on-track was intense as it always is, and from the NTI Transporter Parade to the all-new Palmer Street Party, and the spectacular Friday and Saturday nights with PBR Australia and Summernats Goes Troppo, fans were treated to a fantastic weekend in The ‘Ville.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to put on an event tailor-made for Townsville, and we believe we’re onto a recipe for continued success at North Queensland’s largest annual sporting event.”

The news is a solid sign as to why the government-backed Townsville event remains a big part of the North Queensland and Supercars calendars.
