CHASSIS CHANGE FOR MOSTERT

By Thomas Miles

Chaz Mostert will search for a maiden Townsville 500 victory in a different chassis, returning to the one he used in Sydney.

Mostert will switch from chassis WR29 back to WR28 for not just this weekend’s Townsville 500, but also the foreseeable future.

The chassis he will race with this weekend was the car he used in 2023 and 2024 where last year he took two podiums in Townsville.

The WR29 was debuted in the Sydney 500 season opener, but has been rotated to ensure it is fresh for the 2026 season when WAU races with Toyota.

“The decision was made so that Chassis 29, which debuted in round 1 this year in Sydney, being the newest Gen3 chassis in our current stable, can rotate into the spare car for the remainder of the year, and then will be part of the Toyota programme in 2026 onwards, most likely as a spare. We will be building two new chassis for the Toyota programme in 2026,” a WAU statement said.

“Townsville is a strong track for myself and our Team, I’ve had a few podiums but never quite managed to see the view from the top step, that’s what we are aiming for this weekend,” Mostert said.

“Friday’s afternoon race puts the pressure to roll out of the truck strong, if you’re behind the eightball you’ve only got a short amount of time to turn the car around before the race.

“I had some great battles here last year, it’s a track that encourages great racing, there will be plenty of action this weekend again, I am sure of it!”
