The off-track battles Buckley overcame to famous win

Alice Buckley celebrates TA2 win

By Thomas Miles

In addition to beating dominant teammate Jarrod Hughes, Alice Buckley had to overcome a nasty bout of sickness to make TA2 Muscle Car Series history.

As a new arrival, Buckley stole the show in the Chevrolet Castrol-backed Camaro, driving to victory in just her third race and immediately doubling up in the finale.

This completed a perfect day as she also took pole with two new tyres on Sunday morning at Queensland Raceway.

The wins followed a respectable Saturday results of fourth and eighth were more than matching her expectations of her debut round.

Whilst she has been on the east-coast racing scene for the last two years, all of her experience has come in Toyota 86s and Hyundai Excels, nothing compared to the V8 grunt of a TA2.

But to add an extra layer of difficulty, Buckley had to overcome a nasty bout of sickness, which held her back, not that it was apparent on the stopwatch.

“It was a really draining weekend because it was so hard getting my head around something different and I was also really, really sick,” Buckley recalled.

“I just had to take it corner by corner each lap as it came.

“I had a bit of a weird cold and chest infection. It was a horrible few days.

“We got the schedule and pretty much worked out the allocated timeslots for me to have sleeps in between sessions.

“I would get out of the car, have something to eat and then go straight to sleep.

“We would then go through the data an hour before hitting the track so it was fresh in my mind.

“The boys put a helmet fan to help me breathe because I was struggling in the test when I was not even sick, which was really helpful.

“Once I got in the car, adrenaline kicked in, but qualifying was some of the toughest sessions.

“It is hard to throw that into your debut weekend, but I had a lot of great support.”
