Supercars checks PremiAir engines

PremiAir at Darwin

By Thomas Miles

Peter Xiberras has revealed Supercars carried post-event checks on PremiAir’s engines following the Darwin Triple Crown.

In a team press release, Xiberras has publicly stated this occurred following the racing in June.

Although PremiAir struggled at Hidden Valley with a best result of 15th despite having performed so well the year before, there was one strength, straight-line speed.

It was so good that Supercars have examined the Camaro engines since and Xiberras confirmed there were no dramas.

“It is no secret that our weekend in Darwin didn’t go to plan, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t some highlights as well,” he said.

“For instance, our straight line speed was so superior at Hidden Valley Raceway that they sealed one of our engines for inspection after the event!

“Of course, no issues were found, and our compliance was affirmed, along with our confidence that the long straights of Townsville will suit our PremiAir Racing Camaros this weekend.”

In addition to hoping straight line speed down Townsville’s long pit straight can propel a fightback, Xiberras believes the team has been taking giant strides in the lane and strategy will be a big part of this weekend.

“Also buoying our spirits is the fact that at Darwin, our crew achieved the third-quickest pit stops in the field, behind Triple Eight and Brad Jones Racing,” he said.

“It won’t be surprising for you to hear that our pit stops have been a key focus for our team as we have sought to improve wherever possible, and so to see that we are stacking up so well against our competitors is positive news indeed.

“If we can qualify strongly, we have all the ingredients for a great result in Townsville, which, in addition to being the halfway point of our season, also marks three years since Jimmy Golding joined our team.”

The Indigenous Round liveries will be retained on both PremiAir Camaros.
