TCR in trouble after latest opener delay

Buchan testing

By Thomas Miles

For the third time, the 2025 TCR Australia opener has been delayed, with the latest throwing the season in doubt.

The 2025 TCR Australia season was set to begin at the revived One Raceway on June 27-29 at a Motorsport Australia Trophy Tour event.

However, this will not take place as the circuit confirmed on social media that both headline categories, TCR Australia and AU3 had withdrawn.

It is a massive blow for TCR Australia, which has already been forced to change the location of its opener twice beforehand.

The preferred venue was initially New Zealand, but within three months, the category changed its mind to Wanneroo, but the Supercars support act fell through too.

The revived One Raceway was the preferred option, but now that will not happen with the venue itself confirming the news, and offering individual track days to enthusiasts since.

“Unfortunately, the late withdrawal of a couple of key categories – TCR Australia and AU3 – has caused the cancellation of the Motorsport Australia Trophy Tour event scheduled for June 28-28,” it wrote on social media.

“While this is disappointing, its given us the opportunity to meet popular demand and provide enthusiasts the opportunity to sample our circuit on a weekend in both directions.”

So far in 2025 only reigning champion Josh Buchan, teammate Ryan MacMillan, title rival Zac Soutar and Iain McDougall were the only confirmed drivers.

After the cancellation of One Raceway, just Race Winton in August, The Bend in September and Macau are set to make up the TCR Australia season with the World Tour coming for the final two.
