Jones encouraged by Supercars debut

Harri Jones

After years in the making, Harri Jones finally made his Supercars debut at The Bend and was pleased with his performance.

The Porsche star tried his hand at Supercars last weekend and put in a solid effort to help Anton De Pasquale carry on his consistent year, finishing 10th.

It was a busy weekend for the Team 18 debutante as he doubled up, doing Carrera Cup where he claimed yet another round win.

Despite losing two spots on the first lap, Jones held firm for the rest of his double stint and handed the car over to De Pasquale in ninth.

Having been chasing a Supercars drive for years, the two-time Carrera Cup champion was pleased with his first crack.

“I am really happy to be honest,” he told Auto Action.

“It was a tough old slog doing two Carrera Cup races before the 500, but on the whole it was a good couple of stints I put in.

“There were a few boxes we ticked and got some very good learnings in the lead up to Bathurst, so looking forward to that.”

It was fitting the Supercars debut arrived at The Bend given the South Australian circuit was where Jones enjoyed his very first drive of the Camaro late last year.

He feels like he has come a long way since then.

“My first drive last year was my first day heel and toeing since Formula Ford,” Jones said.

“Since then there has been a lot of development and gaining confidence in the car.

“I am understanding what it needs and what is required to become a Supercars driver.

“The start was not great so I have to work on a few of the procedures and bits and pieces along with that.

“There is still a little way to go, but I am confident in myself and the team around me to improve for Bathurst.”

As a whole Jones would love to become a regular in the Supercars paddock as he feels with his continual Carrera Cup domination and development he is driving better than ever.

“I think so. Just with experience and years in the car you get more confident and take in all the learnings from the last 10 years and apply them,” he said.

“It has been a good year and in both the Carrera Cup and Supercars I have good teams around me in environments that help me grow.

“I just need to do my job, bring the car straight to Anton and be fast.

“That is all I am focused on and we will see what opportunities come up from there.”
