Penske stars keen for Detriot reset

By Thomas Miles

Putting a nightmare Indianapolis 500 behind them, Team Penske Antipodeans Scott McLaughlin and Will Power have their eyes forward on Detroit.

Just a week after the biggest race of the year, IndyCar is back in action for the Grand Prix of Detroit.

It is always an important race for Team Penske as it is in the home of Chevrolet, the team’s engine supplier.

But following the cheating disaster of Indy, it is an even more critical race for the team to reset.

McLaughlin did not make it through the warm up lap last weekend and has only finished in the top 10 once at Detroit.

The Kiwi said he feels the team has still been taking strides foward and is hopeful of a big performance.

“So happy to be here in Detroit,” he said.

“Obviously, Chevy’s home race is around basically the capital of Chevy. Team Chevy has been working really hard together to be better and improve every race.

“We’re just getting better and better. And what a place to get going, here at the home race.”

Power has enjoyed plenty of previous success at Detroit with wins in 2022, 2016 and 2014.

“Looking forward to this weekend,” the Aussie said.

“I think every Chevy driver wants to get Chevy’s first win for the season.

“It’s certainly been a rough start, but we’re here at the home of Chevrolet, and the home of Roger Penske.

“So, we really want to perform well for many reasons.”
