Top Fuel champion turns pink

Phil Read cancer car

By Thomas Miles

In addition to success at the Spring Nationals at The Bend, Phil Read will be racing for Breast Cancer this weekend.

The three-time Top Fuel champion has turned his dragster from yellow to pink in support of Snap-On Tools’ Socket to Breast Cancer initiative.

After raising $217,000 in its first year, the program is back to support the McGrath Foundation, which provides nurses who offer life-changing support to individuals and families experiencing cancer.

Snap-On has set a goal of raising $250,000 in 2025, following the success of its 2024 campaign, which garnered support from more than 180 Snap-On franchisees.

The Jim Read Racing Top Fuel dragster will stand out this weekend when racing takes place at the Dragway at The Bend.

Read said the program is close to his heart.

“Raising funds for this important cause is deeply personal, a close family friend has undergone treatment for breast cancer and so this year, we’ve proudly wrapped our Top Fuel Dragster pink in support,” he said. “Every pink tool sold is more than gear for the garage, it’s funding for a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse.

“If buying a pink tool helps even one more family get the support they need, then that’s something I’ll stand behind.

“In racing, you’re always pushing to go faster and achieve more. That’s exactly what we’re doing this year, building on last year’s $217,000 to hit a new target of a quarter of a million dollars.

“It’s a big goal, but I know with the passion of Snap-on’s customers and the wider automotive and racing community, we can get there and make a real difference for families facing cancer.”

The National Drag Racing Championship round takes place from October 3-5.
