Bargwanna growing TCM toolbox

Bargwanna racing at SMP

By Thomas Miles

After a strong debut and follow up test at Sydney, Jude Bargwanna cannot wait to have another crack at Touring Car Masters in Tasmania.

Bargwanna is one of the big additions to the 2025 grid, driving the Duggan Family Hotels Carlton Zero VB Commodore, which was steered to championship glory by Adam Garwood last year.

The rookie made an immediate impression by winning the Trophy Race and finishing the first two championship sprints third and second.

However, his momentum came to an end with a retirement due to a gearbox failure.

But Bargwanna is only enriched by the experience and has doubled down on his learnings by completing a test day at the same venue.

As a result, Bargwanna is full of enthusiasm ahead of his next dance in the VB Commodore at Symmons Plains on May 9-11, which will be another first for the youngster.

“I am starting to come to grips with it now,” Bargwanna told Auto Action.

“Sydney came around really quick, getting the car just a few weeks before and we played it by ear.

“We were happy with how we went but there is still so much left in it, especially from me just getting my head around these cars that have a fair bit of development.

“The big factor is just having six Hoosier tyres and one of the biggest things was learning to look after it.

“We had a great test day doing over 95 laps in the car trying different things and getting my head around the car more.

“I have a greater understanding of how it works and we have a better tool package.

“We have come out of the test looking very positive for Tassie where I have never been to and confident we will be on top of things.

“We have done a fair bit of development in terms of trying to get the power down and that is a key part.

“The (Joel) Heinrich Camaro and (Andrew) Fisher Torana are good at putting the power down, so it is an area we need to work on.”
