Buchan excited to taste new Hyundai TCR

Buchan at Bathurst

By Thomas Miles

Today is an important step in the TCR Australia title defence of Josh Buchan as he samples his new car for the first time.

Buchan will shakedown the new Hyundai i30 N Sedan Elantra today which will spearhead his chase of a hat-trick of TCR Australia crowns.

He feels it will only strengthen his package with HMO Customer Racing.

“I will be in a brand new sedan,” he said.

“Just looking at the car it should make more grip in the front end.

“It is probably going to open the weakness the previous car had where it was not quite as alive in the front as it could be, but still an extremely good package to race.

“It also lacked a bit of fizz some of the new cars had on the new car and hopefully the update can provide a little bit of that.

“We will see what happens and we won two championships with the old car, so it is no slouch and would be more than happy to race it again.”

Unfortunately, Buchan will not race his Zagame Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 at SMP this weekend due to an injury sustained by his co-driver Jason Nu.

However, the experienced driver will still be at the SpeedSeries round supporting the team.

“I had my fingers in a few pies and sadly the GT4 thing will dissolve for this weekend through no fault of anyone,” Buchan said.

“My co driver has a leg injury and it just effects him for an extended period when sitting in a car and for GT racing that is obviously unfortunate.

“He has had to bail out for the foreseeable future. He will be back, but not sure when depending on how things progress.

“He is a very good friend so I want him to get better and the racing is a shame, but I could not care less when it comes to the health of a mate.

“The Zagame program will carry on and I will still be at all the events.”
