GM Supercars teams will continue to have their V8 powertrains exclusively supplied by the Queensland based KRE Race Engines team after signing a new contract extension.
KRE Race Engines will continue to support the ongoing development and supply of the Chevrolet Racing LTR V8 engine, a powertrain that has largely dominated and delivered constant success in the Gen3 of Supercars.
The deal between the Ken McNamara-owned engine shop and GM also puts to bed any possibility of KRE also supplying Ford its engines in light of talk after the Triple Eight brand switch.
Ken and Wendy McNamara have been building and supplying engines to GM teams for over 15 years, having started out KRE from a home workshop in 1996, with their engines going on to power teams, drivers, and their cars, to some truly iconic victories.
The news comes after Chris Payne, General Manager of Chevrolet Racing, declared in February that GM had extended its arrangements with Supercars and, would be running until at least 2027.
Out of 55 races so far in the 2023-25 Gen3 era, The Camaro ZL1 – with the guidance of KRE under the hood – has taken out 38 of them, including both of the teams and drivers championships to date via Erebus and the soon to defect Triple Eight Race Engineering.

Payne, General Manager Chevrolet Racing, gave his thoughts on the perfect coupling of GM and KRE, and that the latter’s integral roles within Supercars should stay on one side of the fence for the sake of the competition and the fans.
“We believe that the powertrain is a critical part of the DNA in the sport of Supercars, and that the fans want to see that aspect of the competition continue with strong brand differentiation,” Payne said.
“We look forward to working with and extending our relationship with KRE in Supercars.”

'description' => 'The Supercars Championship, currently known as the Repco Supercars Championship, is the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia\'s biggest sports. It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
