Sweeny joins BRT’s Super2 team

By Timothy Neal

The Blanchard Racing Team has announced the signing of Bailey Sweeny to its Super2 program, with the 22-year old racer hoping to pave his way into an eventual Supercars career.

After a successful start in Karting as a multiple state champion, Sweeny then moved into the tin tops via the TGR 86 series in 2021.

He then made himself known as a constant threat in a TCR Australia Championship that boasted a very strong and talent filled grid, falling just short of a probable title when leading into the final round, with mechanical issues putting paid to his hopes.

His first full year in TCR with HMO Customer Racing saw him take rookie of the year with two victories, whilst his follow up 2023 “near title” season produced five wins.

After managing to put some rubber on the road at the 2024 Bathurst 1000 in Super3, Sweeny will now step into the same Mustang chassis as piloted by Jack Perkins that took wins at Townsville and Sandown.

“I’m thrilled to join BRT to contest the Super2 Series full-time in 2025,” said Sweeny.

“This is a monumental step in my career, one that brings me closer to my dream of competing in Supercars as a main game driver.”

“Thanks to Tim (Blanchard), Kate (Harrington) and the entire team for their faith in providing me with such a massive opportunity.”

“I look forward to hitting the ground running at Sydney and showing what I can do behind the wheel of a Supercar.”

BRT Team Principal Tim Blanchard expressed the Sweeny has precisely the kind of talent and character that fit into the BRT ethos.

“Bailey represents exactly the kind of young talent we strive to support here at BRT,” Tim Blanchard.

“His track record speaks volumes, and his ambition aligns perfectly with BRT’s focus of growth and development.”

Likewise, Team Manager Kate Harrington also had a glowing word for Sweeny’s potential.

“Bailey joining our team represents more than just expanding our driver line-up, it’s a reflection of our dedication to advancing careers and ensuring our crew has ample chances to succeed and climb the ranks in motorsport while we participate as a full-time contender in the Super2 series.”

Sweeny will make his debut in the six-round Super2 season at the season-opening Sydney 500 on February 21-23.
