Young trio fronts Aston Martin 12 Hour charge

By Thomas Miles

A trio of youngsters have been given the licence to thrill behind the wheel of the Volante Rosso Motorsport Aston Martin at Bathurst.

Jaylen Robotham, 22, Jamie Day, 19, and Mateo Villagomez, 22, will spearhead the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 at the 2025 Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

They will be the youngest driver line up at the early February event and will compete in the Silver class.

It will be a new experience for most with both drivers and the car yet to take on the 12 Hour.

Volante Rosso Motorsport does have previous 12 Hour experience, last standing on the class podium in 2023, but the car has not been at Mount Panorama before and the last time the famous British brand was here was 2020.

Robotham has three Bathurst 1000 starts behind him, having most recently started with Bryce Fullwood last year.

In addition to Supercars and Super2, Robotham also has GT3 experience in Thailand.

“I’m really looking forward to the Bathurst 12 Hour with Volante Rosso and its Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3,” said Robotham.

“The car looks amazing and can’t wait to get behind the wheel.

“The Bathurst 12 Hour is one of the last events for me to tick off my bucket list, and hopefully we can get a good result.

“Both of my team-mates are Aston Martin academy drivers, so I’m keen to learn as much as I can.

“The are both Bathurst rookies, so I’ll be ready to give them as much information as I can about the track, and I know that they’ll be able to help me get my head around the car.

“I really think we have a strong line-up, and I can’t thank Volante Rosso enough for the opportunity to race with them in this iconic event.”

Day recently became an Aston Martin Racing Driver Academy graduate having won last year’s British GT4 Silver Cup title.

He also took part in the GT4 European Series and finished third in Pro Am at the Dubai 24 Hours.

“I am super excited to get started for the Bathurst 12 hour teaming up with Volante Rosso,” said Day.

“This has always been a bucket list race and I can’t thank Aston Martin Racing and Volante Rosso enough for making it possible. I’m excited to see what we can do.”

Villagomez has a previous connection with Day as they raced together in the GT4 European Series last year.

Villagomez also brings Formula 4 and Prototype Cup experience, plus stints behind the wheel in a Aston Martin’s Vantage AMR GT4.

“I’m really happy to be racing the Aston Martin for this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour,” said Villagomez.

“It is going to be a new challenge for me with Volante Rosso’s GT3 entry.

“I’ve been told that the whole environment and the mountain is crazy. It will be a new experience but I’m really looking forward to doing such an iconic race.”

The 2025 Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour will be held on January 31-February 2.
