Price ‘stoked’ with strong Dakar start

Despite admitting “we don’t really have an idea of what we’re doing” Toby Price and Sam Sunderland have enjoyed a brilliant start to their first Dakar Rally on four wheels.
Price is already a Dakar legend, being the first Australian to win the iconic rally in 2016 and doing it again three years later.
But after losing his ride at KTM he decided 2025 was the year to switch to four wheels.
And it is so far, so good with Price and Sunderland sitting a strong fourth after the first three days and two stages.

Whilst the likes of Carlos Sainz and Sebastien Loeb encountered issues in the 48-hour marathon that is Stage 2, Price flew from 12th to fourth in the overall standings.
Being just 11m44s away, the Overdrive Racing machine is well and truely in the mix.
Price may be making his car Dakar debut, he is no stranger to four wheels winning events such as the Baja 500 and Finke Desert Race.
Price admits there is still so much to learn, which is promising considering how well he has done so far.
“It was a good stage for sure,” Price said after Stage 2.
“As rookies, me and Sam, we don’t really have an idea of what we’re doing, so, sure, it was a lot more difficult than what we were thinking.
“When you get into that dust, you can’t see all those more or less visible tracks and things like this.
“We had one little bit of an issue before the section of sand dunes, about midway today.
“We were searching for a way point there for a little bit. We got behind Nasser from that last check point pretty much through to the finish and we thought we’ll just try and follow, watch and learn…
“The car is in good shape, no crazy noises, more or less nice and easy.
“There’s a long way to go, it’s only day three.
“Sam’s doing a great job as a complete, green rookie to the whole thing and I feel bad because I’ve given him a few head knocks and rattles in there, but all in all, we’re stoked.”
