Field set for Touring Car Masters finale

By Thomas Miles

A 15-car field will take to the Bend Motorsport Park where the 2024 Touring Car Masters title will be decided this weekend.

All eyes will be on Adam Garwood in the #2 Develon Equipment Holden VB Commodore as he aims to wrap up a maiden Touring Car Masters title.

Garwood enters the finale in a formidable position, with a 82-point advantage over Jamie Tilley in the Ford Mustang.

Impressively the top two are both Pro Am competitors with the highest Pro Master driver Ryan Hansford in third.

Hansford is in a tight battle for third place in the championship as only 32 points separate the Multipsares Torana, Joel Heinrich and Danny Buzadzic.

All of them are still well within striking distance with Tilley only being 37 points clear of Hansford.

All of the big names in title contention will be there, as well as Trophy Race expert Danny Buzadzic and fellow Torana drivers Peter Burnitt, Dave Hinder and Allan Hughes.

Unfortunately Steven Johnson will not take part for a third straight round with Dean Lillie once again substituting.

After pulling out with illness mid round at Sydney Motorsport Park being John Bowe jump in at the last minute, Lillie drove the Hancock Racing Mustang.

That will remain the case with Lillie getting a second drive after being fourth in the round at Sandown.

The drivers that took part at the penultimate round in Sandown three months ago and not taking part in the finale are Jim Pollicina, Jeremy Hassell, Warren Trewin and Kiwi Lance Hughes, while Brad Tilley returns in his #28 Ford Falcon GT and Allan Hughes is back in his Torana.

Last year the fight for Touring Car Masters glory at The Bend was an enthralling one.

Hansford showed early pace before local Heinrich in the Camaro took back to back wins, but still fell four points short in the fight for round honours.

However, in the race for the title, Garwood is the one to beat, having taken wins at Wanneroo, Hidden Valley

The back to back round wins at Perth and Darwin were critical as it helped him storm away from his title rivals before further cementing the position at Sandown.

Making the finale even more enticing is a total of $10,000 prize money being on offer.

The usual format will take place this weekend with the all three races on Blendline TV.
