Armstrong joins Meyer Shank for 2025 IndyCar series

By Timothy Neal

Kiwi racer Marcus Armstrong will switch Chip Ganassi for Meyer Shank Racing come the 2025 IndyCar season after a career defining year.

The 24-year old who embarked on oval racing for the first time in his career in 2024 with the championship winning CGR team, will switch to the Ohio based squad after a breakthrough year.

After a part-time season in 2023, the former FIA Formula 2 race winner delivered on his talent in the worlds closest open wheel series, taking a maiden podium in Detroit, as well as taking four top-fives across his 18 outings.

With CGR switching to three machines in ’25 with another driver to be announced alongside three-time and 2024 champion Alex Palou, and six-time Astor Cup Kiwi legend Scott Dixon, it was also recently revealed the former F2 champion and Aston Martin F1 reserve driver, Felipe Drugovich, will test for CGR ahead of next season.

Armstrong (in the #11 Honda) added oval racing to his IndyCar CV in 2024

For Armstrong, he won’t remain far from his CGR experience, with the Meyer Shank team to receive technical assistance from the IndyCar giants in ’25.

“I’m very proud to be joining Meyer Shank Racing in 2025, I had a great feeling when I met both (MSR co-owners) Mike Shank and Jim Meyer, their passion for performance and meticulous work ethic was obvious from our first conversation and I want to thank them both for this opportunity,” the Christchurch native said.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone at MSR over the off-season with the goal of hitting the ground running at the first race of the season in St. Petersburg (Round 1 – Florida).

“This year I got closer to where I want to be performance wise, including oval racing for the first time. I’m looking forward to continuing to push up the order with MSR. We want to be at the front, fighting for wins. And I believe we have the recipe to do it.”

Team Principal, Micheal Shank, said that they are excited to add the 2023 rookie of the year in their squad.

“We’re very excited to welcome Marcus onboard, he’s really shown a lot of growth and consistency in his first two years in IndyCar, which is really difficult to do,” Shank said.

“This series is probably one of the most competitive series out there, and he has proven himself to be a real contender. We are going to do everything we can to give him the car and the tools to produce results next year.”

Armstrong improved to 14th in the standings this season after finishing twentieth as the top-rookie in 2024.
