Perkins BRT Mustang back in Super2

Jack Perkins and the 1979 Peter Janson/Larry Perkins tribute Mustang will be racing Super2 in Sandown after all.
The Blanchard Racing Team Mustang was initially ineligible to carry on racing in the Dunlop Series after it won in Townsville
At the time Perkins claimed this was due to Rule 6.2.6 “any Driver who is Competing in an Endurance Event will not be eligible to Compete at the same Event in the Dunlop Series unless that Driver has Competed in a minimum of three (3) of the previous Dunlop Series Rounds in the same year, or in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of Supercars.”
However, the Townsville Super2 winner admitted he misinterpreted the rule after Sandown was added to the Dunlop Series calendar in 2016.
Now after Supercars gave approval to BRT on Monday, the #79 Mustang and its 1979 livery will brighten up Sandown this weekend.
“Well I’m now very happy to inform you all that we are racing in Super2 at Sandown in our Shaw and Partners Financial Services 1979 Peter Janson/Larry Perkins retro rocket!” Perkins said.
“I’d like to personally thank Supercars, Blanchard Racing Team and all of the Super2 teams for their support on this which includes; Rachael and Ben Eggleston, Bruce Stewart and Carl Faux, Rod Nash, Brad Jones, Amin Chahda, Michael Anderson, Jason Gomersall, Todd Kelly, Murray Walker, Terry Wyhoon, Barry Ryan, Ryan McLeod and Paul Morris.
“Thanks again to all of our sponsors and supporters for their continue support as well; Shaw and Partners Financial Services, Southern Cross Truck Rentals, Muscle Car Warehouse, Castrol, TLC Auto Centre, Haeusler’s, Snowy River Caravans, Noble Logistics, Mannell Investments, CoolDrive Auto Parts and Blanchard Racing Team.
“Finally I must also thank the many fans and supporters who wanted to see this car on the grid at Sandown. It was very special to have so much support so thank you!
“Hopefully we can put on a good show this weekend and don’t forget to come and see us for a Cherry Ripe!!!”
It ensures Perkins will be able to do double duties this weekend as he reunites with James Courtney in the #7 BRT Mustang in the main game.
Perkins is one of five Super2 drivers doing Supercars alongside Kai Allen, Aaron Cameron, Cameron McLeod, Brad Vaughan and Cooper Murray, while Cameron Crick is solely focusing on Supercars.

It originated from the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC), which held its first race in 1960 at Gnoo-Blas in Orange, New South Wales. The ATCC evolved over the years, and in 1997, it was rebranded as the V8 Supercars Championship, eventually becoming the Supercars Championship we know today.
Some of the leading drivers in the history of the Supercars Championship include Peter Brock, who is often referred to as the "King of the Mountain" for his nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, a race that is considered one of the biggest in the series. Other notable drivers include Dick Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, Craig Lowndes, Shane van Gisbergen, Jamie Whincup, who holds the record for the most championship titles, and Mark Skaife, who has also been a dominant force in the series.
The Bathurst 1000, held at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales, is arguably the most famous race in the Supercars calendar. Other significant races include the Sandown 500 and the Adelaide 500, which are known for their challenging circuits and thrilling competitions.
