Tamasi goes back to back
Steven Tamasi has put himself in the box seat to lift the Des Wall Trophy by securing a second straight Precision National Sport Sedan Series win in Sydney.
Tamasi was unthreatened and recorded a commanding 2.7s win over Peter Ingram, while a fast start vaulted Geoff Taunton to a podium.
Fans were robbed of another Tamasi v Shiels battle with the latter’s Fiat suffering mechanical dramas before the warmup lap.
This meant the #9 enjoyed a clean run from the front row but all eyes were on Taunton as he had a lightning start to shoot from seventh to third, going right on the pit wall to sneak clear of the sister MARC of Steve Lacey.
This set-up a three-way battle with both Taunton and Ingram on Tamasi’s bumper.
But the fight ended at the end of Lap 2 where Peter Ingram suddenly lost 3s with a major wobble coming out of Turn 8.
With the championship leader desperately trying to catch his Mazda RX7 that was going from side to side, Tamasi was able to cruise past and snatch second.
However, Ingram did not even need a lap to retake the position.
The rest of the top five was well spaced out after Matt Ingram accounted for Lacey, while behind Jarvis, Mark Duggan had his work cut out keeping hold of seventh with Grant Donaldson and Daniel Crompton on his tail.
Eventually it ended in tears as Duggan tried to cover off Donaldson going into Turn 2 and contact was made, sending the VB Aston Martin into a spin. However, Duggan still held ninth.
Further back Ben Purtell and Chris Jackson both spun at Turn 5, while they almost had a similar scare at the following corner later in the race.
Despite a small moment at Turn 6, Tamasi cruised to back to back wins.
The third and final Sports Sedans race is at 11.30 AEST Sunday morning.
