Morris to make GT comeback

After steering an Aussie Racing Car in Townsville, Paul Morris will join the GT World Challenge Australia with Scott Taylor.
The pair will drive a GT Trophy Class Porsche 997 GT3R in round 3 of the season at Queensland Raceway on August 2-4.
Taylor is no stranger to the car having raced the final two rounds of the 2022 GT World Challenge Australia season.
He also enjoyed success taking a GT Trophy class win at Queensland Raceway and a podium in Adelaide.
The 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner is fresh from racing in the Aussie Racing Cars last weekend, but in addition to his Supercars/Touring Cars career has plenty of GT experience.
His sportscar career includes the Bathurst 24 Hour where he drove for both Ferrari and Porsche. Driving the latter in 2003 he was third behind the iconic 1-2 of the Garry Rogers Motorsport Holden Monaros.
Morris was also part of the GT run Sandown 500 in 2001 in a Ferrari 360 where he qualified third and finished fourth.
His GT experience has also expanded overseas to the Daytona 24 in 2017.
“I’ve driven that car before at Queensland Raceway and it’s a beautiful car,” said Morris.
“When he asked if I’d like to do it, I jumped at the opportunity. I had no hesitation.
“The Porsche of Scott’s just has a really good feel. It’s got a fair bit of aero, plenty of power and big tyres. It’s got all the stuff you want.
“I’m now ranked bronze because of my age too, so it will be good to get in and have a rip.”
Taylor can’t wait to drive a Porsche he “loves” so much.
“I love this Porsche,” said Taylor.
“It just has so much mechanical grip, it’s old school, it’s loud, it’s everything, but I can feel that car 10 times over what I can feel in any late-model aero model.
“The GT category is on a rise. It would be fair to say that GTs have had a less favourable couple of years, but in more recent years, it’s had bigger grids and it’s great to see that the community is back and being involved in the class.
“It’s pretty cool to have all the different brands and models racing in GT too.
“The way that the category is being presented has really stepped up as well. It has been done a lot better in its current format with everyone is enjoying it.
“I love GT racing.”
