Contrasting Friday emotions for Erebus

Le Brocq

By Thomas Miles

Erebus Motorsport’s Jack Le Brocq and Brodie Kostecki ended Friday at Townsville with differing emotions.

Le Brocq is the one with the biggest smile and confidence in car #9 after leading the majority of Practice 2.

The #9 went to the top around 10 minutes into the 40 minute session with a 1:13.8966.

This remained the benchmark all the way until the chequered flag, but Cameron Waters eclipsed it by 0.0590s on his final lap to take the honours.

Having been 12th in Practice 1, it was a big jump between sessions.

Le Brocq revealed he saved an extra set of greens for Practice 2 and is confident of fighting up the front on Saturday.

“It was a good run,” the Erebus driver said.

“We went through everything and tried a couple of weird and wacky things at the end, but have quite a good car.

“We changed a lot of stuff during P1 but also did not run a set of greens so had two sets to run then which is always nice.

“This track is weird and changes so much, especially on a Friday.

I think there will be another step forward when we go qualifying

“We learnt a lot and are pretty confident going into tomorrow.”

But it is a different story on the other side of the garage with Kostecki feeling “lost”.

Despite being a respectable ninth and eighth across the two sessions, the reigning champion revealed he is not comfortable with the steering of his #1 Erebus Camaro.

As a result Kostecki hopes a change of steering rack can be the answer on Saturday.

“I am a bit lost at the moment,” Kostecki admitted.

“The steering has been feeling a bit funny all weekend so the boys changed a whole bunch of stuff and we still didn’t quite get on top of it.

“We will put a new rack in it before qualifying.

“The car actually feels really good but I am just lost in the steering wheel.

“We have done a lot of work there and nothing is really happening.

“We will get it fixed for tomorrow and will be fine, trying to get the #1 up front.”
