Radicals return to Perth, Price racing for special cause

By Thomas Miles

TWENTY-TWO Radical SR3 entries will tackle Round 2 of the Radical Cup Australia Series at the Perth SuperSprint this weekend in the west.

It’s one of the series’ strongest ever grids that includes the return of a key contender to add further spice to the pointy end of an already competitive field in the first trip to Wanneroo since 2022.

The driver, who won the last Radicals trip to Perth, Elliott Schutte, is returning to the grid this weekend.

The Arise Racing driver returns to the championship fresh from a GT World Challenge debut at Phillip Island in a Ferrari.

He is expected to be one of several strong additions to the Radical grid in Perth – another being 17-year-old rising star, Zara Horn.

A successful karting graduate and Ferrari Driver Academy candidate, Horn will pilot a Radical SR3 as a solo river for the first time for Arise Racing having tackled several WA state rounds with the squad recently.

She made her debut in Sydney last year driving alongside Jordan Oon in an Arise Racing entry – finishing ninth and eighth in the two races, respectively.

GWR Australia has also expanded with former Australian Formula 3 champion Jon Collins to go head-to-head with his mother Sue Hughes for the first time.

Cade Bell/Mark Cirillo and Ian Oon/Jay Wong have also been added.

First Focus GWR driver Peter Paddon leads the series after claiming victory in the opening round at Phillip Island last month.

Paddon won on a count-back after he and West Aussie young gun Cooper Cutts split the honours at the high-speed Victorian circuit, being tied on 76 points each.

Cutts will be one of four driving the brand-new SR3XXR, while Ethan Brown and Terry Knowles completed the top four at Phillip Island.

The returning Schutte and Bryce Moore claimed the victories at Wanneroo in 2022, the latter prevailing with the round victory overall having taken pole position as well.

Moore also returns this year driving alongside Chris Reindler, the pair having raced at the pointy-end of the field in Phillip Island’s recent season opener.

PRICE RACING FOR CANCER.

Melinda Price - Breast Cancer awareness - Breast Cancer Network Australia

Melinda Price will be racing in Perth to promote Breast Cancer awareness and the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Melinda Price is celebrating her return to the venue she made her Supercars debut at back in 1998 by highlighting Breast Cancer Network Australia’s (BCNA) Pink Bun campaign during the month of May.

All proceeds from the sale of the limited edition Pink Buns at Bakers Delight go directly to BCNA. In addition, Pink Bun Parties held all across Australia, including at Wanneroo will donate all proceeds to the charity.

Price has a donation page set-up at this link: https://pinksportsday.bcna.org.au/my-fundraising/1665/melinda-price

“I return this weekend to Perth where I made my touring car debut with the Castrol Cougars,” said Price.

“It gets replayed from time-to-time due to Larry Perkins and John Bowe having a monster battle – one of the best battles of all time.

“I support Breast Cancer Network Australia, which I have done for a little while and with the program in full swing I’ve got my own donation page.

“From 9-29 May, Bakers Delight, the foundation partner of BCNA, is selling Pink Buns with 100 percent of sales being donated. You can also host a Pink Bun Party, which I will be doing in the Radical paddock outside the Volante Rosso pit on Saturday at 2pm.

“Volante Rosso has jumped onboard to support, my team-mates will carry Pink Lady stickers on their cars and Supercars has been really supportive too.”

Following two practice sessions and Qualifying on Friday, the first race is on Saturday morning at 10:00am local time.

That will be followed by two, 25-minute sprint races on Sunday; the first at 8:00am and the second at 10:25.

All three races will be broadcast live and ad-break free on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports this weekend.
