Newey set to leave Red Bull

Newey

By Thomas Miles

The latest bombshell from Red Bull could be coming soon with reports emerging that legendary designer Adrian Newey could be about to leave the team.

Newey has been one of the biggest brains behind Red Bull’s domination of Formula 1, being the mastermind of all six of its constructors-championship winning cars.

The big news was first reported by German outlet Auto Motor und Sport and has since been confirmed by Autosport.

Newey is currently contracted by Red Bull having only signed a fresh new deal last year.

Despite this, his time at the team has been under the microscope following the fallout of the Christian Horner saga when the team principal was investigated and eventually dismissed for misconduct with a female employee.

During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix it was revealed Newey had received a big money offer from Aston Martin to leave.

If Newey does leave it will be a massive blow for Red Bull, which appears destined to cruise to an eighth drivers title and seventh constructors title this year with the commanding combination of Max Verstappen and RB20.

The legendary 65-year-old designer entered the F1 world with March/Leyton House in 1988 before moving to Williams and creating some of the most dominant and iconic cars ever in 1992 and 1993.

From 1997-2005 Newey was a key player at McLaren and immediately helped the team rise from a shocking 1996 to scoring wins in 1997 before back to back titles with Mika Hakkinen.

Since 2006 Newey has been the mastermind behind Red Bull’s rise from being a newcomer to the dominant force of Formula 1 and breaking all sorts of records with initially Sebastian Vettel and now Verstappen.

All up Newey has won 13 drivers and 12 constructors titles and more than 200 Grands Prix.
