Open field for Radical Cup

By Thomas Miles

It will be an open field when the Radical Cup Australia season begins at Phillip Island during this weekend’s SpeedSeries event.

The young gun who took the series by storm on his way to a rookie championship, Alex Gardner, will not defend his crown for Volante Rosso Motorsport.

Instead the team will have the likes of James Hernandez, Colin Ivory, Peter Claire/Josh Hunt and Greg Kenny/Melinda Price racing for them.

A new winner will emerge from the 18-car field which is headlined by the arrival of four brand new SR3 XXR machines which were recently launched in the UK.

These will be raced by Ash Samadi, Cooper Cutts, Peter Paddon and Stephen Champion.

Armed with one of the new machines, Cutts could be one of the leading contenders.

The youngster finished third in the championship last year and will be fronting Arise Racing.

Also at Arise is the younger brother of former Supercars driver Karl Reindler, Chris, plus Bruce Moore and Brad Russell.

Several drivers will make their one-make Radical debut including Arthur Abrahams, Ethan Brown, Michael Donnellan and Ivory.

The drivers will be split across outright, Pro Am and Am honours.

Following practice on Friday and Qualifying Saturday morning, one 45-minute race each will be held on Saturday and Sunday of the event, commencing at 12:00pm local time.

Latest Podcast: Follow the Easter Trail and more here on the Auto Action RevLimiter

This week we had to work hard for Supercar News, but we found some. It was easier in Speedway with the Easter Trail and the new speedway opening at Eastern Creek.
