Race Phillip Island to salute Mustang anniversary

When the SpeedSeries heads to Phillip Island next weekend, it will salute six decades of the iconic Ford Mustang.

The Race Phillip Island event will double as a celebration of the Ford Mustang ahead of its 60th anniversary on 17 April.

There will be some special Ford Mustang displays throughout the weekend, while the car will be a feature across the coverage on the Seven Network.

It is fitting the celebration will take place at an event where Trans Am are racing with the Mustang dominating the category.

The car has won four of the five Trans Am championship crowns and is yet to lose a race in 2024.

Ford Australia’s Marketing Director, Ambrose Henderson said it will be a great way to celebrate the famous car.

“The Ford Mustang has a momentous history in Australia and around the world,” Henderson said.

“The opportunity to celebrate such an important milestone at the upcoming Shannons SpeedSeries is an exciting prospect for everyone at Ford Australia, as well as Ford Mustang owners who have been invited to attend.

“Motorsport is in Mustang’s DNA and it will be exciting to see all the Mustangs in action on track as part of the event.”

Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra thanked Ford for its support of the event.

“We’re grateful to everyone at Ford for their support of motorsport across the country, including at the upcoming Shannons SpeedSeries,” Vohra said.

“Ford Mustang 60 Years Race Phillip Island will be a terrific event at one of Australia’s best circuits, mixed with a stunning category line up for the SpeedSeries’ return to the Island in 2024.”

Ford Mustang 60 Years Race Phillip Island will be held on 12-14 April at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
