Jude Bargwanna to take on TCR

Jude Bargwanna

By Thomas Miles

There will be two Bargwanna’s on the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series grid when the category returns at Phillip Island.

Both Jason and Ben Bargwanna have already won TCR races, but now the latter’s cousin Jude will have a crack in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

The 19-year-old will race the chassis Jordan Cox steered to four wins in 2021 for Garry Rogers Motorsport, but this time it will be run as a privateer under the name Jude Bargwanna Motorsport.

After the Phillip Island debut, the #179 Alfa Romeo is expected to feature throughout the remainder of the season.

The youngest Bargwanna revealed the urge to race TCR arrived straight after watching the action at the previous round in Symmons Plains.

“I’m stoked to go racing, I haven’t raced a car since November last year,” said Bargwanna.

“To get the opportunity to jump in one of these TCR cars, I’m super thankful. It’s been real last minute; the deal was put together just a week ago.

“I watched the last race in Tassie and got on the phone to Barry pretty much the next day, and we had a chat about leasing a car. I know TCR is a great formula and I’ve been following it for a while with Ben in the category, I’ve also worked with GRM at the racetrack on these cars a few times as well.

“At this stage we don’t have a lot of expectations, it’s going to be very new coming off what I’ve driven previously.

“I’m just looking forward to getting in the car, and we’ll take it round by round.”

After two seasons in the open-wheel world racing Formula Ford and S5000, Bargwanna had a crack at the V8 Touring Car series and won dominated it on debut in albeit a small field.

But he revealed his TCR setup will be very basic with “a few school mates” on board but he is excited to do it his way.

“We’ll run our own show here at Jude Bargwanna Motorsport,” Bargwanna said.

“We’re here with two car trailers and just Dad and myself running the car at the moment.

“I’ve called up a few school mates to come in and help us next week at Phillip Island.

“It’s real exciting, to be running our own thing, and something I’ve been looking forward to.”
