Feeney: Starts a ‘work in progress’ for Triple Eight
Triple Eight Race Engineering has enjoyed a perfect start to 2024 taking a hat-trick of victories, but there is one small chink in its armour.
In all three races so far at least one of the Red Bull Camaros has had a slow getaway off the start line.
In the Bathurst opener both Broc Feeney or Will Brown crawled off the line but fortunately with both being on the front row they could block any of their faster-starting challengers.
However, on Sunday Feeney had another slow start and could not stop Chaz Mostert from charging into the lead.
The same happened in Thursday’s Australian Grand Prix opener as Anton De Pasquale nailed the jump and beat Feeney down to turn 1.
But as always so far in 2024, Triple Eight was able to enjoy the last laugh with Feeney able to pounce on a De Pasquale mistake and cruise to victory and another 1-2.
Despite the perfect start to the season, Feeney admitted Triple Eight has starts under the microscope.
“It is a work in progress,” Feeney said.
“We certainly haven’t had unreal starts all year. Will got a position off the start which was good and mine was okay, but ended up back in the lead which was the main thing.
“It is something we are focusing on quite a bit and continuing to work on throughout practice.
“But you race not so often and we are not testing until later in the year so there is only a limited amount you can do and we are focusing on that.”
