By Thomas Miles

Macauley Jones will be a hit with the kids at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend as he takes a TV favourite racing.

Jones’ #96 Brad Jones Racing Camaro has turned yellow to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants TV show.

The iconic TV character has been turned into a livery that will be raced with by Jones at the second Supercars round of 2024 that supports the Australian Grand Prix.

It is the latest in a theme of special and unique liveries on the #96 since Pizza Hut became the title sponsor last year.

At The Bend and Sandown Jones also ran another kids TV favourite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Now at the Australian Grand Prix he will take SpongeBob SquarePants racing and can’t wait to do so.

“I have fond memories of watching SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star from when I was younger, I loved watching the show. But this is a whole different ballgame,” he said.

“Pizza Hut have knocked it out of the park again with a unique, eye-catching and just an awesome livery really.

“They say don’t meet your childhood heroes but what about putting them on your race car?

“In the iconic words of SpongeBob SquarePants ‘I’m ready’.

“I’m quite excited to get out on track at Albert Park, I’ve had a few decent results here in the past and the circuit is one that I genuinely like. Here’s to a good weekend.”

Albert Park is the scene of Jones’ equal best Supercars finish of sixth achieved in 2022.
