Ingram completes perfect Sports Sedans opener

Peter Ingram completed a perfect start to the 2024 Precision National Sports Sedan Series season by winning a shortened third and final race in the category’s celebrated return to the Apple Isle.

Ingram controlled all 14 laps of the opening round finale that ended early due to a Safety Car caused by the beached Aston Martin DB9 of Mark Duggan.

He was unchallenged with Geoff Taunton coming second and Steven Tamasi flying from 13th to second in the Holden Calibra despite the limited green flag running.

Steve Lacey had an embarrassing moment before the race even began, spinning when leaving the pits on route to the grid.

Tamasi started 13th but made up five spots on the first lap alone as Ingram built 2s lead and was never seen again.

Blake Purtell, Ryan Humfrey and Matthew Ingram contested a wild battle for fifth that was eventually won by the former.

Closer to the front of the field Taunton and Kim Barwick went back and forth for second on consecutive trips down the back straight.

By lap 6 Tamasi was up to seventh and on the cusp of the top five with Duggan and Humfrey right in front of him.

It did not take him long to get by both of them and suddenly he shot past Purtell and Barwick to surge to third.

Drama started unfolding at the hairpin where Scotty Cameron big spin and was lucky to escape.

Duggan was sitting a solid sixth, but a second lockup in three laps sent Duggan into a spin at the tight left hander.

His attempt at trying to rejoin the field went wrong as the Aston Martin got stuck in the sand.

Despite Tamasi charging hard and lots of battles throughout the fire breathing field, Peter Ingram was in a league of his own in the first Sports Sedans round at Symmons Plains in 32 years.

The second round of the Precision National Sports Sedan Series is at The Bend Motorsport Park on May 31-June 2.
