ROUND one of the Kick Ass Queensland Rally Championship is kicking off this weekend.

The eight-stage Manumbar Rally this Saturday 16 March will see drivers tackling forest terrain in the Elgin Vale, Gallangowan, and the Nanango areas, with the day taking off from Nanango Showgrounds.

“Competitors will enjoy a mix of old favourites and rarely used roads, many of which have had recent work undertaken thanks to our long time supporters, HQPlantations,” said course clerk, Iain Robertson.

“I would like to give particular thanks to Shaun and the APX Suspension team for their considerable support of and leading up to the event, as well as to every single official, competitor, and supporter who has worked cooperatively with myself and the Brisbane Sporting Car Club to get us to what will be a brilliant event.

“While it has been a challenging ride to get to this point, I and my team of over 140 volunteers look forward to welcoming 30 crews to an event with a slightly different format to recent events.

“The weather looks to be favourable, the roads are in great condition, and we now have everything we need for this to be a great start to the QRC season.

“Finally, I would like to thank the Nanango SES for stepping in to assist us in the running of one of our spectator points, allowing us to have a spectator friendly location close to the township of Nanango.”

After servicing and refueling, rally crews will head to the second heat, before an Elgin Vale refuel. The last service at Manumbar Campdraft Grounds is also where the action will conclude.

Also participating in the day are Acworth Recruitment Clubman Series and WSC Novice Series drivers. A presentation ceremony is planned for 6pm.

“We will have a lot of merchandise and prizes to hand out to the competitors who attend the trophy presentation at the Manumbar Campdraft Association,” said experienced rally competitor, Shaun Gill, also owner of APX Suspension.

“We are also providing 100 vouchers for officials adding up to a cumulative $12,000.00 if every voucher is redeemed.”
