New look for new Repsol Honda era

Repsol Honda 2024 MotoGP

By Thomas Miles

Repsol Honda has marked the post Marc Marquez era with new eye-catching new warpaint for the 2024 MotoGP World Championship.

Just like when Marquez arrived in 2013, Repsol Honda has made a substantial tweak to its Honda RC213V livery that harks back to the early days of the team.

Having spent the last decade racing predominantly the same in white, red and orange colours, the team has gone back to a darker base that has similarities to the ones raced by Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner in previous eras.

The new look celebrates three decades of collaboration between Repsol and Honda HRC, which has produced six World Champions, 183 premier class victories, 455 podiums and nine Triple Crowns.

With no Marquez for the first time since Stoner and Dani Pedrosa raced in 2012, Joan Mir and new recruit Luca Marini will be riding the famous team into a new era.

Mir enters his second season with the factory squad and will be hungry to improve from his 22nd place in the championship last year.

The Spaniard described his Repsol Honda debut as a learning year which featured just one top 10 at India and nine DNF’s and five DNS’.

But Mir is hopeful a “positive” Sepang test can put the team on the right track.

“It’s amazing to be part of a team with such history and success in MotoGP, I am as excited to start this season with the Repsol Honda Team as I was the last one.

“I think the colours for this year are really different and very bold, certainly something unique from the team.

“We have had a positive first taste of the bike and five productive days in Sepang, now we have to look ahead to the Qatar Test and the race.

“Last year taught me a lot and I am looking to put everything into practice for this year to help the Repsol Honda Team return to where I know they can be.”

Teammate Marini will be making his Repsol Honda debut in 2024 after showing pace for the satellite VR46 Racing operation.

His third season in the premier class was easily his best, finishing eighth in the championship with two podiums at Texas and Qatar.

Mir admitted it is a dream to be racing for Repsol Honda.

“For me it is an honour to join the Repsol Honda Team,” he said.

“When I was a young child I already had some leathers in their colours for racing minibikes.

“Now to be here, at the launch, in the leathers and with the bike – it is a dream come true, something from destiny.

“This bike looks really beautiful, the colours are something very new and I am proud to represent them.

“We are just at the start of our journey together, but I already feel a part of the team and well supported by the engineers.

“I’ve ridden just six days on the bike so we are looking to make the most of the last test and begin the year in the best way possible.”
