Acosta’s first MotoGP bike revealed

Acosta Fernandez Tech3 MotoGP 2024

By Thomas Miles

GASGAS Tech3 has unveiled the first MotoGP bike anticipated rookie Pedro Acosta will race in the 2024 season.

Having cleaned up the 2021 Moto3 and 2023 Moto2 crowns, Spaniard Acosta arrives in the premier class full of hype.

The 19-year-old scored three wins in his Moto2 debut in 2022 before dominating the 2023 season with six more victories.

As a result there is plenty of attention on how Acosta will perform at the top level after replacing Pol Espargaro.

The boy from Mazarron admitted he is aware of the pressure surrounding him.

“If I think about my career and journey so far then it is quite nice,” Acosta said.

Pedro Acosta is ready for his MotoGP debut.

“It is nice to say I had the opportunity to ride for a factory team in my first season, win two titles in three years and come into a factory team for the first season in MotoGP.

“But it is also quite tough to play with the pressure, to play with the comments. I don’t want to think about the results at the moment.

“I will try to enjoy the Malaysia test and try to get as much experience as I can to try and be competitive at the beginning of the season but during that we also need to take race experience to grow step-by-step.”

In 2024 GASGAS Tech3 has a revised all red livery with extra backing from Red Bull.

On the other side of the garage is Augusto Fernandez, who will suit up for his second season at the team.

With his teammate Espargaro being heavily impacted by injury, Fernandez led the team for much of the season and did enough to score the MotoGP rookie of the year title for finishing 17th in the championship.

Augusto Fernandez is chasing more top fives after claiming rookie of the year honours.

The highlight was an impressive fourth place at the dramatic French Grand Prix.

Fernandez (24) himself beat a young Acosta (17) to the 2022 Moto2 crown and he is looking forward to resuming their rivalry.

But most of all Fernandez is determined to build on the foundations made and lessons learnt from his rookie season.

“Everything was new and there was a lot to learn last year but there were points towards the end of the season where I felt fast and like I had the speed,” he said.

“I felt comfortable riding the bike but as a rookie you had to be very patient and trust the process.

“When I finished 2023 I analysed the season and saw I had made the steps I needed to take.

“I am looking forward to this year because I now have the references of each track with the GASGAS RC16 and I know on Fridays we need to put a lot of input because it can decide much of the weekend.”
