Quimby secures USF4 drive in 2024

By Timothy Neal

Young Aussie Daniel Quimby will race a full season in the FIA USF4 Championship in 2024 with the Canadian based Atlantic Racing Team after dipping his toes in the water in 2023.

Quimby ran in the short Formula Pro Western USA Winter Series earlier in the year, taking two poles and winning two races to take the satellite series title fresh out of Karting, driving for the Doran Motorsports Group in a 160 hp Ligier F4.

At the back-end of the 2023 USF4 championship, Quimby then raced in the final round at COTA for Doran-Kroll Competition, qualifying in P6 and finishing 8th, 7th in races 1 and 2, sharing the grid with fellow Aussie Jesse Lacey.

The young Sydney sider will jump in the newly developed Ligier F4-22 Gen2 for the Atlantic Racing Team, teaming up with Canadian James Lawley for the series.

After impressing at COTA in his sole USF4 round in 2023, Quimby has gained a full-season seat for 2024

“Having seen Daniel in the Western Winter Series, he made a tremendous impression on us,”  said Lucas Strackerjan, Atlantic team engineer.

“Now we are fortunate to have him as one of our two US F4 drivers. Daniel will be running the newly developed Ligier F4-22 Gen2 car in the  USF4 FIA sanctioned Championship, in addition to testing in and running a couple of national races during the summer break.”

Quimby will also be part of testing program in early 2023 for the Formula Regional F3 machine alongside Lawley, driving at the tracks like Motorsport Ranch in Dallas, Buttonwillow in California, and at the Carolina Motorsport park, whilst the team will then split them between the F4 and USFR/F3 car for the early season Western Winter Series.

The USF4 has been a succesful breeding ground for young Aussie over the past few season, with Lochie Hughes having won the title in 2022 with Jay Howard Driver Development, with 2024 seeing him now step up to the penultiate rung of the Road to indy ladder.

Whilst this season, Lacey drove for Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport taking a win and five podiums to finish fourth in the championship, and his Aussie teammate Lewis Hodgson raced half a seaosn taking two podiums.

Round 1 of the 2024 USF4 season is on April 11-14 at NOLA Motorsport Park in New Orleans.
