Brodie Kostecki has been awarded the Drivers’ Driver award at the Supercars annual Gala Awards with Chaz Mostert took out his first Barry Sheene Medal, whilst the Mike Kable Young Gun Award went to the rising star Cameron McLeod.

Fresh from his outstanding maiden championship year which was sealed on the streets of Adelaide, Kostecki was voted by his peers as the Driver’s Driver.

In a year where he took ten pole positions and 18 podium places in 28 races, he helped deliver a double championship for the privateer Erebus team whilst being the first driver to claim the title in the Gen3 era. He was also the first Aussie driver since Jamie Whincup in 2017 to win the Supercars title.

In the individual gong – Barry Sheene Medal – awarded the driver who displays outstanding leadership, media  interaction, character, personality, fan appeal and sportsmanship throughout the season, it was the first time that the WAU driver has taken it out.

He was a clear winner in the eyes of Australian motorsport journalists, after he finished the year as the highest ranked Mustang driver in largely a difficult year for the Ford stables.

Young Cameron McLeod has a big future ahead of him, and this year he pretty much won in every single machine he put his backside in, showing incredible potential with his calm and calculated manner at the wheel.

You won’t see many kids make it look as easy as the young Queenslander does, and that’s why he took out the hotly contested Mike Kable Young Gun Award.

The Grandson of 1987 Bathurst 1000 winner Peter McLeod and son of veteran industry figure and former racer Ryan McLeod, has shone in his debut Dunlop Super3 year, and came close to sweeping the pole awards for the season as well as regularity running up with the Super2 machinery in a rarely seen effort in the hooked up Nissan Altima.

He was also the first Aussie driver since Jamie Whincup in 2027 to win the Supercars title.

The event of the year – one of the fan voted categories – went to the VAILO Adelaide 500, which the organisers claimed had an estimated 260,700 fans flock to the track.

The fans also voted outgoing three-time champion Shane van Gisbergen as the fan most popular driver for a third year straight, coming in the same season that he took another Bathurst 1000, and captivated the world of motorsport by winning on the streets of Chicago in his NASCAR  debut with Trackhouse Racing.

SVG exits Supercars to take on the best of America after claiming 80 wins, 177 podiums, 48 pole positions over 227 round starts and 511 race starts. SVG finished in the top-ten of the drivers championship 14 years running, assisting Triple Eight to four team titles.

The Red Bull Ampol Racing Team was also the Fan’s Choice as Best Presented Team for the ninth time.

Also receiving accolades were the champions of 2023, and there must be something in the water at Mount Gambier, with two of its young sons in Kai Allen taking out the Super2 and Jobe Stewart claiming the Super3.

Eggleston Motorsport also claimed the Dunlop Super2 Series Teams’ Championship for 2023, whilst Chevrolet won Manufacturer of the Year, and the volunteers from the Gold Coast 500 won Volunteers Group of the Year.

For the highest media accolade, Mark Larkham got the Supercars Media Award nod, with the insightful and entertaining track side TV pundit always a favourite for speaking his mind and finding avenues of explanation for everything a fan could want examined.

Teams will now take a short break before returning to prepare for the 2024 Supercars Championship, with the first event of 2024 the Bathurst 500 on February 23-25.
