Cameron wins Gold Star crown

By Thomas Miles

Aaron Cameron has clinched the prestigious Gold Star crown by controlling a shortened S5000 second sprint in Adelaide.

To ensure there is no doubt about the destination of the Australian Drivers Championship, Cameron led from start to finish to secure a third straight win and sixth of the season.

He led home Jordan Boys and Cooper Webster under the control of the Safety Car after Mark Rosser crashed at Turn 8.

Cameron won the GRM drag race off the line against Boys despite the latter trying to hang on the outside.

Behind Bargwanna jumped to third and Webster shot from sixth to fourth as Blake Purdie had a slow getaway.

It only took a lap and a half for Cameron to pull a second on Boys as Herne had already made up four spots to seventh and was on the move.

Webster snatched third from Bargwanna with a big dive down the inside at turn 4 in the run up Wakefield Street.

Amadio brushed the turn 8 fence but survived

However, a couple of laps later he brought out the Safety Car for good when he came unstuck on the exit of the Senna Chicane having hit the concrete front on.

With 4 laps to go racing resumed and Bargwanna slid through the Senna Chicane which put him under pressure to hold fourth from Purdie.

The field could not complete the lap before the Safety Car returned due to Mark Rosser being bitten by turn 8.

The South Aussie local carried too much speed and hit the left rear with the outside wall, which sent him in a spin and he rear ended the inside wall.

The secondary impact left a significant amount of damage and ensured the race ended under safety car.

The third and final race where Cameron will be crowned 2023 S5000 champion will take place at 09.00 AEDT Sunday morning.
