McLeod full of praise for ‘amazing’ car that stunned Sports Sedans

By Thomas Miles

Cameron McLeod stunned the Precision National Sports Sedans field by taking a clean sweep on debut at Surfers Paradise and praised his “amazing” car.

McLeod and his all-new IRC GT SS took on the fire-breathing category for the first time at last weekend’s Gold Coast finale and blew the field away.

The green-eyed #95 took pole position and won all three races, being the clear pacesetter.

In the opener McLeod made a bold move under brakes to snatch the lead from Jordan Caruso and never looked back.

The second race he drove into the distance winning by 20s, while the final race was a similar story, leading every lap and lowering the fastest lap benchmark to a 1:11.0365s and winning by 3.4s.

McLeod was behind the wheel of the new IRC GT SS designed by the team at PACE Innovations as a Sports Sedan variant to the existing IRC GT.

The car ran in a Mustang silhouette with a six litre engine, while the chassis used a larger brake package, bigger wheels and tyres, and featured increased horsepower over the GT model.

The third-generation driver and 18 was full of praise of the car that helped drive him to stunning Sports Sedans success.

“The car is amazing,” said McLeod.

“As soon as we took it out of the truck on Monday it was just amazing straight away.

“We’ve come here and the car is just flawless out of the gate as well, there’s not one thing that’s gone wrong with it.

“The car handles the bumps of the street circuit well, and we raised the ride height to help it navigate the big kerbs.

“Everywhere else it’s working really well, through the corners, under braking and it puts its traction down pretty nicely.

“The (IRC) GT SS is a real contender for the future in Sports Sedans.”
