Supercars has released the attendance figures for the 2023 Bathurst 1000 and the fans turned out in their droves to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Great Race.
A total of 204,069 fans attended the 2023 Bathurst 1000 across the four days from Thursday to Sunday.
Supercars has claimed it is the third highest attendance in the storied six decades of history at the event.
The only races to have more fans were 2012 when Mount Panorama celebrated 50 years of the Great Race and 2018 to farewell Craig Lowndes from full time racing.
Ironically Triple Eight won all three of those occasions with Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell triumphing in 2012, Lowndes and Steven Richards getting a fairytale win in 2018, plus Shane van Gisbergen and Richie Stanaway adding their names to the list on Sunday.
The first Gen3 Bathurst 1000 was always going to be a highly attended race with anticipation high as soon as tickets sales were released with camping grounds sold out within hours.
Supercars CEO Shane Howard was ecstatic with the turnout.
“The Bathurst 1000 holds a special place in the hearts of motorsport fans across Australia and around the world,” Supercars CEO Shane Howard said.
“To see well over 200,000 fans gather to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Great Race is a testament to the passion and dedication of our loyal supporters.
“We are thrilled to have reached the third-highest attendance figure in the event’s history as we add another brilliant chapter to the enduring legacy of this incredible race.”
The 2023 Supercars Championship will return at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 on October 27-29.
