Harris dominant in SuperUtes, Casha on the T86 championship charge

By Thomas Miles

Two drivers have been utterly dominant in the Bathurst supports with Ryal Harris enjoying an unbeaten Saturday in the V8 SuperUte Seriesand Ryan Casha leading the charge to the Toyota 86 Series crown.

V8 SuperUte Series

Ryal Harris fended off Aaron Borg to claim both V8 SuperUte Series Saturday races, while series leader Adam Marjoram stayed consistent with a pair of thirds.

The first race of the day and second of the weekend was a Safety Car shortened affair international SuperUtes rookie Tom Oliphant came to a stop in the run up to the Cutting.

This set up a one-lap dash to the chequered flag between Harris and Borg, who had charged through the field with some aggressive moves to displace early leader Marjoram.

Harris kept Borg at bay by just two tenths in a tense finale where the #1 had a look at the final corner but could not sneak through, while Cody Brewczynski was spun at Hell Corner.

In the second race of the day Harris got a great jump and pulled away from Borg, while Brewczynski went nowhere off the line.

Harris only needed a lap to pull a second on Borg to take control of the race as the battle of third was tight with Craig Woods having to get his elbows out to keep Marjoram and Sieders behind.

At the halfway mark Sieders cracked under the pressure, spearing off at The Chase after briefly getting past Marjoram.

But Woods was the one without luck, with his tyre deflating and sending him into the concrete at the Cutting.

The V8 SuperUte Series returns for a very early start on Sunday at 07.25 AEDT.

Toyota 86 Series

Ryan Casha is charging towards the Toyota 86 Series championship crown after continuing his perfect weekend at Bathurst.

After taking pole and race one, Casha extended his dominance with an untroubled run to the chequered flag ahead of Cody Burcher and Clay Richards.

It was an even start between Casha and Richards and the championship leader won the battle while Burcher and Hillyer settled in behind.

The lead pack was relatively calm across the first lap but it was anything but further back with wild moments at Skyline, The Chase and Murrays Corner.

Eventually it ended in teams for Ryan Tomsett and Cooper Barnes after the former spun the latter at the Cutting.

Both were out of action from the incident, while Rylan Gray was held up significantly from the tangle.

During the drama Burcher made his way past Richards for second and their battle allowed Casha to open up a 3s lead.

After going off at the Estes Richards was on the defence to retain a podium place ahead of Matt Hillyer and Brock Stintson with the latter pair making door to door contact at the Cutting.

Jack Westbury joined them in the top five briefly before he was displaced by Hughes on the final lap.

There was more late drama as Tom Davies lost control with a lock up at The Chase and speared into the innocent Jordan Freestone.

But up front there was no stopping Casha from charging to a commanding 3.5s win over Burcher, while Richards held onto the podium place.

Casha hopes to close out the championship by continuing his perfect weekend in the Toyota 86 Series finale at 08.30 AEDT.
