O’Keeffe claims crazy Carrera Cup finale

Dylan O’Keeffe has made it five different winners in as many rounds at Sandown amid Carrera Cup chaos on the first lap.
A fast start allowed O’Keeffe to a shortened third race of the weekend as Callum Hedge was spun into trouble.
O’Keeffe secured his second career round win after a dominant weekend ahead of Bayley Hall and Dale Wood in a race trimmed from 17 to 12 laps due to a major first corner smash.
O’Keeffe got a flyer to enjoy a clean run into turn one, while drama unfolded behind as the slow starting Hedge was swallowed up by the pack.
Contact by Fabian Coulthard spun Hedge at the left hander, which triggered bedlam behind with cars going everywhere.
Christian Pancione was spun by Adrian Flack while Nick McBride climbed over the top of car #20, which sent him on a collision course into the side of Sam Shahin, who was minding his own business in the run off area.
It was a wild ride for McBride, who was tipped on two wheels and landed on top of the left front of Pancione before T-Boning Shahin.
All four were wiped out on the spot, while Angelo Mouzouris joined them on the sidelines with damage by lap six.
The Safety Car controlled the field until racing resumed on lap five with O’Keeffe leading Hall, Wood, Simon Fallon and Coulthard.
But soon the BWT driver disappeared from the top five after receiving a drive through penalty for spinning Hedge.
Jackson Walls also caught the attention of race control, receiving a five-second penalty for overlapping on the restart.
This meant his troubled weekend ended with him finishing down in ninth.
Hedge luckily was not collected by the oncoming pack and managed to salvage 12th.
It was enough to ensure he enjoys a 118 point lead over Walls as the series heads to Mount Panorama.
