King to sit out Sandown 500 Carrera Cup round

Wall Racing Carrera Cup rookie Luke King has been unfortunately forced to the sidelines for the Sandown 500 event, with GT championship leader Liam Talbot stepping in.

King’s first season sees him within reach of the top-ten, with unforeseen circumstances forcing the hard working New South Welshman – a Colin Bond Award winner and two time Gazoo racing vice champion – to sub out for the 2019 Pro Am GT champion Liam Talbot.

Liam Talbot is ready for his unexpected Carrera Cup call up.

Talbot took the first session this morning in the #27 Motuai Porsche Cup Car, with King calling him the perfect sub.

“Obviously my preference is to be in the seat but Liam is the perfect sub to help us represent Moutai, Fast Track Communications, Inicio Premium Tequila and Paynter Dixon to deliver some great results on track this weekend,” King said.

“Liam has had a great GT campaign this year and it is my hope that the extra seat time will prepare him well with the gap in that championship.”

Talbot, who leads in the Pro Am standings in the GT World Challenge Australia, is excited to swap the Audi R8 for the 992.

“Motorsport is fast paced both on and off track and to get the call this week to sub for Luke was a great opportunity,” Talbot explained.

“Luke and I have crossed paths a couple of times, he’s one of the hardest workers in the motorsport game and I’ll be doing my best to represent his sponsors and the team for the weekend.

“I haven’t tasted Moutai (Porsche) yet but I’ll save that for Sunday after the races!”

Talbot opened the day with a P24 in the first session, 01.765s off the pace in what will be a tight Carrera Cup round.

King plans to return to the series with further news to come as the story develops.
