Allen cruises to maiden Super2 win

Mount Gambier sensation Kai Allen has collected his maiden Super2 success in dominant fashion on the streets of Townsville.
Having set Super3 alight last year, Allen made his next breakthrough in his fifth race in the second tier and did it in style.
Allen marked the win with a drift out of the final corner as he enjoyed a 4s advantage over Eggleston Motorsport teammate Cameron Crick, with their success fuelled by a flying start.
Polesitter Aaron Seton joined the Eggleston drivers on the podium, while Cameron McLeod stayed out of trouble to convert his sensational qualifying effort into another Super3 win with another Mount Gambier youngster Jobe Stewart in second.
It was an intriguing race with the big players starting out of position and the likes of Ryan Wood and Zak Best charging through the pack to claim top 10 results.
The race started without Jack Perkins, who was ruled out from the weekend after a qualifying clash with Brad Vaughan.
Seton bogged it down as the Eggleston cars stormed into the lead with Allen leading the fast starting Crick, who flew from the third row to second.
The field almost got through the opening lap cleanly, but Chris Smerdon and Mason Kelly collided at the hairpin.
Smerdon was spun into the fence by Kelly after the pair tangled twice on the exit of the hairpin.
The Safety Car was required as Kelly only lasted two more corners before he fired into the fence at turn 1.
Allen calmly controlled the restart and quickly opened a healthy gap on Crick and Seton.
But further back there was plenty of jostling for position as it took 17 minutes for championship leaders Best and Wood to crack the top 10 and pass McLeod.
Lochie Dalton was trying to follow the pair through the pack, but suffered a huge lock up at Turn 2 and narrowly missed Nash Morris.
The hairy moment left Dalton with four flat spots and two flat tyres at the back of the field as he crawled to the pits.
James Masterton almost brought out a late safety car when he spun by himself at turn 9, but was able to escape.
Another to struggle was Jay Hanson, who battled steering dramas and finished last, three laps down.
The second and final Dunlop Series race is at 13.15 Sunday afternoon.
