As Shane van Gisbergen fights for a sensational win on NASCAR Cup Series debut in Chicago, moves are already being made for the Kiwi to return.
Van Gisbergen has been fighting at the front all day in the Chicago Street Race in the Project 91 Camaro, which is backed by Enhance Health.
The boss of Enhance Health, Matt Hermann, has confirmed he has offered to back Shane van Gisbergen in an expanded NASCAR campaign next year.
“We want to run him in more races next year,” Herman confirmed to AUTO ACTION’S Andrew Clarke in pit lane before the start of the inaugural Chicago Street Race.
Enhance Health is the largest health insurance company in the USA, and feels its target market is closely aligned with the NASCAR fanbase.
The exact details and which races are not clear, but Herman indicated he’d like to run the Kiwi on ovals as well as road courses and that he was talking multiple races.
An expanded but not full campaign in 2024 could provide a springboard to running the complete series in 2025 without running in the Xfinity Series.
Van Gisbergen has made a massive impression in his first NASCAR outing by topping practice and qualifying third.
The Kiwi has been among the leading contenders in the Chicago Street Race and even led a lap.
After he and the top drivers dived into pit road, van Gisbergen is 16th, but one of the first on fresher tyres with 22 laps to go.
