Sargent continues podium run at Miami GP

By Timothy Neal

Tom Sargent has continued his run of podiums in his debut season in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America, with a P2 in Miami to sit second in the championship.

The McElrea Racing Aussie came from P4 to claim his fifth straight P2 in Race 1 at the Miami GP track, finishing +1.895 Behind the rampant Riley Dickinson.

The 2022 Sprint Challenge Australia winner wasn’t so lucky in Race 2, but he was sitting pretty for another podium finish, and perhaps a first win, but on a restart on the penultimate lap, the Aussie push for a sixth straight podium became unravelled.

Life has started well for Sargent in the Porsche North America series, taking his fifth straight P2 at the Miami Grand Prix

When Sargent went wide to make a move on Dickinson and Martin, who were protecting the inside line, guest racer Kay van Berlo made contact with the rear of Sargent’s car, which dropped him through the field from P3 to P21.

It was the first time that Sargent had failed to make the podium in his six-race career so far in North America, with P4 also being his lowest qualifying effort after having raced at Sebring and Long Beach already.

In Both the Pro and Junior classes, the Aussie trails Dickinson by just 18 points to sit second in both tables, with the Australian McElrea team also sitting the same amount behind the Kelly Moss Racing team.

The next round the Porsche Carrera Cup North America heads to the New York area on June 22-25 to race at the Watkins Glen International.
