Loiacono impresses on the Road to Indy

Liam Loiacono US Formula Ford 2000

By Timothy Neal

An ex-Formula Ford contender has been making noise in the USF Juniors, with Liam Loiacono taking back-to-back round wins at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course earlier in July.

Ahead of next weekends penultimate round at Road America, the former QLD champion and National Formula Ford race winner is right in the title mix with six races and plenty of points left on the board.

After taking his maiden win in Mid-Ohio back in June, the return July round saw the New South Welshman take a second in the #6 Jay Howard Driver Development Tatuus JR-23 after Canadian Ty Fisher was disqualified post-race.

The vital points put him as an outside contender in the hunt for the USD 249,675 advancement scholarship, with 43 to make up to the leader at a value of 30 for the winner per race.

It would have been nice to win it on the track. It was unfortunate for Ty,the Aussie credited.

He drove unbelievably. It is a shame it ended this way for him, but you have to comply with the rules and play fair. So, unfortunately for him, that didnt happen.

It was great to inherit the win, though, especially as it was a hard-fought race and hard weekend for the whole team. I am just happy to finish first after a tough qualifying and bring some good points back I hope we can do it in the next round as well.

Loiacono entered his first international foray having won eight races across all national and state rounds in 2024.

Now in his first season in the US, the youngster hasnt yet finished outside of the top ten on a 20+ grid of Tatuus machines.

Loiacono takes on Road America on July 24-26 for a three-race weekend, whilst the finale heads for Portland in a quick turnaround on August 7-10. Go Loiacono!
